There are are so many wonderful benefits to blogging and in this month’s Travel Link Up with Emma,
Rebecca, Kelly and Sara, we’ve asked what have been the most unexpected of those advantages.
Well meeting new people, having a creative outlet and trying unusual things are just obvs, so I thought I’d come with a few more weird and wonderful ones…and just for fun a few of the disadvantages of blogging…
1.
You will learn a whole new language it’s called BlogSpeak…this is the language by which you communicate with other bloggers, it involves long discussions about social media, scheduling tools, photography and the merits of WordPress over Blogger. I do think it’s fantastic to broaden your mind and learn new languages but your ‘normal’ friends will start looking at you strangely and maybe even rolling their eyes when they hear you talking about
Instagram yet again.
2.
Getting closer to my dad… Now I must be careful writing this as my dad is an avid reader of my blog. I’ve mention before that he also writes a blog, but
Dr Solly Blog Spot and SilverSpoon London couldn’t be more different. My dad is a computer programmer and his blog often features long posts about complicated coding and and new forms of hardware. His blog also covers some of his favourite hobbies, building electronic bicycles, geocaching and constructing robot arms. We’re very different people…his favourite restaurant is Beaconsfield Service station and his idea of a good day out is walking through a muddy field. But since I started my blog it’s given us something in common…ok he’s not bothered about having a pretty blog with colourful pictures and a nice font but he’s great at giving technical advice on loading speed, web hosting and coding. However, we’ve been banned from talking about blogging at the dinner table so as not to bore the rest of the family….
As for macarons…it’s basically a requirement that lifestyle bloggers regularly feature them in their blogs. To be honest I’m not quite sure why the obsession maybe it’s because they look pretty?
Anyway, whatever the reason….blogging gives you an excuse to eat macarons and lots of them…4. I can’t always be wearing the same thing in my blog so I’ve had to buy plenty of new clothes to make sure that I have different outfits and look fresh for every post. It’s fantastic to have ended up with a whole new ‘blog’ wardrobe to model on my online space…
5. The weird and wonderful things that you will learn from the other ladies in the travel link up:
From Rebecca and Emma, the best places for coffee both in London and New Zealand…
From Kelly, where to have the best gluten free afternoon tea…
From Zoe, the best hotels and places to go in Dubai…
From Suze, super luxe destinations in the South of France…
From Manasi, amazing restaurants around the globe…
From Kat, the best places to have your cake and eat it…
From Dannielle, wear gloves if you dye your hair purple…
For Jaklien how you can eat around the world without leaving London…
From Jacintha, some amazing photography tips….
And the list goes on…
Disadvantages of Blogging
Really? There are disadvantages to blogging? Oh yes…let me tell you.
1. All the food when you’re frequently blogging about food and stuffing your face with macarons and cocktails it has to be said that you can get *slightly* sick of it. After too many meals out and too much drinking I find myself craving plain chicken breast and salad. Have you ever heard such #firstworldproblems?
2. Social Media addiction begins to take over your life now I say good night to Twitter after I say good night to my husband. My phone is the first thing I reach for in the morning to check notifications on Instagram and Twitter…I know it’s sad but it’s true.
3. A novel farewell before I started my blog I used to read on average one book a week, that’s more than fifty books a year. Now I terribly ashamed to say that since I started my blog I’ve only read one book. Yes, my friends, that’s one book in a year…and the book I’m reading now has taken me about four months to read 100 pages. It’s shameful for a bookworm like me but I can only blame social media…my addiction to Twitter means I have a much lower concentration span and I can only read things in 140 character blocks….
4. Cold food is the age old problem for a food blogger and our poor families and friends have to put up with a ten minute wait before they eat their food while I make sure I get the perfect photo for the blog. While we’re on the subject of food, another disadvantage of blogging is not being able to order your favourites over and over again because you want variety in your pictures. Trust me I’ve had to hold back from consistent salmon and sea bass ordering as in the pre-blogging days…
5. We become our own worst critic and agonise over sentence structure, photo composition and various web statistics. We beat ourselves up for wearing the same outfit twice in a row, ordering salmon 500 times or not publishing your regular Tuesday post. I think sometimes we forget that blogging is supposed to be fun…it’s you life so order the salmon again, your readers won’t desert you if you forget one post…chill out and enjoy it and it can be the best thing ever! What have been your unexpected advantages of blogging?
