Mr S and I really love a cinema date; I’ve mentioned before that my film of choice will always be chick-flick or a rom-com whereas Mr S prefers action, adventure and hard-hitting political drama…
Well…I don’t know about you but I would definitely prefer to laugh my way through a film! Fortunately, we’ve found some middle ground as we both enjoy bad-lad comedy too like the Hangover, the Inbetweeners and American Pie…lucky there’s been so many sequels.
But actually often I think that the cinema experience is just as important as the film itself and with that in mind I thought I’d let you know about my favourite places in London for a night at the movies.

One of the best cinema experiences I had in London last year was the Film and Fizz Night at One Aldwych.
After enjoying the private screening of the film, we had a fab three-course meal in the hotel’s restaurant, Axis. It’s part of the package for £49.50 each!
I love the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road, the 100 year old cinema is just gorgeous and so intimate with space for only around 80 people.
The comfy red leather armchairs with useful side tables are great, but even better are the two seater sofas at the back of the cinema or the double beds at the front. It’s just perfect for a date night and Mr Silver and I usually grab a glass of champagne from the bar at the back of the cinema and settle in on one of the sofas under a cosy cashmere blanket.
Though the bar serves substantial snacks to enjoy throughout the experience, there is also an all-day diner next door which is the perfect place to complete your cosy date night.
The Soho Hotel
Mr S and I had a very early date at the Film Club at the Soho Hotel. I’ve mentioned before that I love the eclectic style of the Firmdale Hotels, especially the gigantic cat that guards the entrance of the Soho…
And afterwards we headed up to the refuel restaurant for a romantic dinner. There’s no membership required or anything and it’s on every Sunday accompanied by lunch, afternoon tea or dinner for £35 per person.
Popping to Hampstead for dinner at the Gaucho followed by a film at the Everyman used to be a regular occurrence for Mr S and I. It’s one of our favourite cinemas because you can grab one of the little booths at the side and snuggle up among the cushions.
