Throwback Thursday – Passport to Paris

I’ve been to so many places in the last few years, but having just started blog I never wrote about them…
Well start now I thought!

With that in mind I decided that I would write the occasional Throwback Thursday, starting with a trip to Paris myself and Mr Silver took a couple of years ago.It was Mr S’s birthday and I decided to treat him a day and night to remember! After a champagne fuelled journey on the Eurostar we arrived in The City of Light!!! I had chosen to stay at the Plaza Athenee pretty much based on the fact that Carrie stayed there in Sex in the City. It has also been featured in The Smurfs 2….

The Plaza Athenee is a beautiful hotel that forms part of the Dorchester Collection, encompassing The Dorchester in London, as well as Coworth Park, The Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Principe di Savoie among others. The signature red flowers and awnings on the hotel are an iconic site on the Avenue Montaigne near the Champs-Elysees and the hotel is a legendary institution in Paris. Guests to the hotel have included Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jackson, Rhianna, Robert Pattinson and Johnny Depp to name a few!
Our suite for the night was amazing!!

Mr Silver loves boats and as the hotel has its own boat, I thought that a private sail down the River Seine would be the perfect treat for his birthday.

Here’s our love boat!
We were given champagne and freshly made cakes from the kitchen of the Plaza Athenee. The cakes were delicious, as they should be; the hotel is home to the top pastry chef in the world! No wonder Carrie enjoyed her croissants so much in the Paris episode of SATC.
The gorgeous red boat perfectly matched the scarlett themed hotel.
As you can see we observed some of the most iconic sites of Paris from the comfortable position of our little boat!
Then we returned to the hotel to get ready for an evening to remember!
The Plaza Athenee houses one of the flagship restaurants in world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse’s empire. The restaurant has three Michelin stars and is regarded as one of the best in the world.

But I didn’t want to go there.

Earlier in the year Mr Silver and I had had the most amazing night at the restaurant in the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel in Vegas. I wanted to recapture that night with dinner at the real Eiffel Tower!!!

The Jules Verne is the restaurant on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, 125 metres above the ground. The hotel is also run by the famous Alain Ducasse and holds one Michelin star.
Dining inside the Eiffel Tower is a magical and incredibly romantic experience.

I love the fact that you look out of the window and see all the girders that make up the glittering beacon and beyond that the bright city lights of Paris. Built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, the tower was only intended to stand for 20 years. However, thankfully, it was saved as it became vital for scientific experiments and is now one of the top attractions in Paris with seven million visitors a year!

After dinner we headed out on to the terrace.

Now I really felt the magic of Paris beneath my feet as we admired the panoramic view that surrounded us; the beautiful city of light.

The next day after a gorgeous breakfast of French patisseries, Mr Silver and I took a stroll along the Champs Elysees and stopped for a drink in the beautiful gardens of the George V Hotel, managed by The Four Seasons.

All too quickly our time in the French capital was over and we headed back to the Eurostar.

We were only there a very brief amount of time but I loved my time in Paris. Perhaps this was the most romantic date I’d ever had!
