St Lucia really is the perfect place for romance, quite possibly the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited with beautiful emerald hills, clear waters and secluded spots. I can’t imagine a better place for a honeymoon. One thing that really struck me about the beautiful island was the lack of commercialisation, there wasn’t a Starbucks around every corner, the roads weren’t crammed with traffic and the beaches were private and secluded. Everyone we met had smiles on their faces and ‘no problem’ was the repeated refrain throughout our stay.
One thing I really loved about Sugar Beach was that there was something for everyone; great activities for both solo holiday makers, couples and families.
The Rainforest Spa at Sugar Beach is perhaps one of the most unique I’ve ever visited. Mr Silver and I passed through a candlelit wooden walk way to arrive in the lush rainforest where wooden treehouses with thatched rooftops sat perched on stilts. The enchanting village of huts actually made up the hotel’s spa!
The spa reception is a bamboo hut selling all different products used in the treatments.
The organic wooden surrounds of the treehouse reception were completely different to white washed walls of the rest of the hotel and made an interesting contrast. There are actually seven different treatment rooms at the Rainforest spa as well as a room for manicures and pedicures, a relaxation area and a steam dome. The spa offers all the treatments that you could possibly desire massages, facials, body wraps as well as ritual from Natura Bisse and Valmont. You can also have treatments in your villa, but I really would suggest at least one trip to the spa which is an experience in itself.
Isn’t it coolest spa you’ve ever seen? I really felt like we were going back to nature…
Though in a really luxurious way…
The wooden walls and natural features of our couples spa suite had a very romantic and cosy feel to it, like our own private treehouse.
Mr S and I were both having massages which were customised for our needs as we both chose our favourite scented oils and the level of pressure that we wanted. The treatments integrate only natural products as well as local ingredients from St Lucia; bananas to smooth wrinkles, coconuts to exfoliate and cocoa butter to heal and hydrate the skin. Sugar Beach offer several couples treatments but I particularly liked the look of the Sulphur Seduction which involves a trip to St Lucia’s sulphur springs and a dip in the mud bath before heading to the water fall to shower in warm water. Back at the spa, the couple is then treated to a relaxing massage; an indulgent treat and a great way to see the natural beauty of the island.
As our treatment was finishing I could hear running water and at the end the spa therapist opened up the back wall to reveal our own natural pool filling with warm water. In the dark of the night and in the middle of the rainforest, it felt so atmospheric to enjoy our little pool for two!
Mr S and I also took a romantic sunset cruise whilst at Sugar Beach…
The Jazzy Cruise at Jade Mountain had been fun but I wanted a more relaxed spin around the coast.
I love the chilled out vibes on the catamaran and though it wasn’t wholly private, they don’t take more than eight people so there is still a relaxed intimacy as you sail through the seas…
Taking in the pretty white beach houses of Sugar Beach…
…the colourful town of Soufriere…
And the stunning architecture of Jade Mountain. We were served wine, cocktails and beer as we drifted through the seas…
And as the sun went down the crew popped the corks on the champagne and we all toasted to this beautiful island that I’d fallen in love with…
Our spa treatment was complimentary
