Our Dream Trip to South Africa #SilverSpoononSafari

For years I’ve dreamed of visiting South Africa, seeing the beautiful landscapes, sampling the food and wine and most of all going on a Safari adventure.

Actually, this is my dream trip, though we decided not to do it for our honeymoon as I had a vision of us staying in those gorgeous huts floating about the sea in Bora Bora. Now, finally on the 18th of March, Mr S and I will be heading on our next big adventure! As you can imagine time has been allocated and spreadsheeted, hotels, restaurants and trips have all been booked and Mr S’s ‘relaxation time’ has also been planned.

I just wanted to to give you a taster of what’s to come as we set forth on our trip; let me introduce to you…SilverSpoon on Safari.

Our adventure starts in Johannesburg…

Now I’ve had plenty of forewarning that Jo’burg is not a safe place to hang out, so our plan is just to stay one night. To those of you with good knowledge of the geography of South Africa you may notice that our itinerary isn’t as easy and straightforward as it could be. This is due to flight availability via air miles and hotel availability, some of the hotels that we are staying in only have small number of rooms so we had to take the dates that we were given.

Anyway, the plan is to then fly over to Cape Town.

Here I’m looking forward to experiencing top notch restaurants, such as Test Kitchen, cocktails at sunset and checking out the night life. We also have a Cape City Tour booked to acquaint us with the streets of the City Centre and take us to the top of Table Mountain. We will also be travelling around the Cape Peninsula to discover the beautiful beaches scenery and wildlife. If we have time, I hope to make a trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for eighteen years of his twenty- seven year sentence.

The next leg of our journey takes us to the Winelands, don’t you just love that name? Oh, to live in a land of wine!

Here we’re staying in Franschhoek where we’re planning on visiting various different vineyards for tastings. I also have some restaurants with incredible views booked for lunch and I’m hoping to get a table at The Tasting Room for dinner.

Then our road trip begins as we get going for our drive along the Garden Route. Doesn’t that just sound idyllic? The route stretches around three hundred kilometres and it is known for it’s beautiful green forests and coastal lagoons.

Driving through Mossel Bay, George and Knysna we will end in Plettenberg Bay where will be staying three nights.

Here I’ve incorporated a little bit of relaxation time for Mr S, along with a visit to an animal rehabilitation centre, we also plan to enjoy the beautiful scenery and set out on a boat trip.

We’ll then head back to the coastal town of Hermanus.

Sadly it’s the wrong time of year for whale-watching but we’ll be staying in a beautiful hotel where Mr S can relax and do nothing and I can start writing up my blog posts!

We’ll then go back to Cape Town before flying off for the final part of the journey, what I’m sure will be the highlight…our safari adventure.

We’ll be dividing our time between Kruger Park and Sabi Sands, which are two very different terrains, I can’t wait to share with you all the adventures that we’ll have there and all the pictures that I hope to take…it’s one month and counting until I go!!

Have you ever been to South Africa? Do you have any tips for me?
