Victoria is a great place to be, transport links are amazing, there’s plenty of useful shops and now there’s even a cinema.
It never used to be a particularly exciting place, and certainly not cool or trendy….but there are big changes coming and when a buzz started about a new place in Victoria, and a sushi place at that, I was excited!
So Mr Silver and I headed out on Saturday to try out Kouzu and find out if lived up to the hype, and to have more fun with our camera!
The restaurant is on a split level and these rather fabulous golden balls dangle from the ceiling as you enter.
We sat on the ground floor but a winding staircase take you up to a mezzanine level with a separate cocktail bar and open kitchen.
Cocktails first! I chose a Yuzu bellini and Mr S had a Ringo which contained Vodka, Apple Juice, Kiwi and Lemon Bitters. The photo made me laugh as you can see me Instagramming in the background…oh yes, it’s all about the blog even on a date night.
Yellow tail, shiso, ginger, spring onion and ponzu truffle dressing.
Salmon with yuzu soy dressing. I’ve mentioned before that I find it hard to describe Japanese food as all the flavours are fresh and clean. So just take my word for it…everything at Kouzu is good.
The chef is Kyoichai Kai and with a Zuma pedigree behind him, you know the food is going to be amazing!
Spicy tuna roll with red onion, fresh chilli pepper, rice cracker, spicy mayonnaise and sesame seeds. The rice was very finely applied so the rolls weren’t at all stodgy and were very easy to eat.
Prawn tempura were incredibly light and non-greasy.
Asparagus brushed with yuzu soy and Japanese chilli pepper.
Corn fed chicken with yakitori sauce.
Lamb chop with spicy miso paste. The sauce on this dish was slightly sweet and perhaps an acquired taste but very tasty!
We chose a gorgeous tea panacotta served with walnuts and ice cream and I was keen to try some of the unusual ice cream flavours.
And a refreshing Yuzu sorbet
Kouzu very much lived up to the hype for us and is perhaps a step towards making Victoria more exciting… watch this space as I’ve got a few more posts coming up about the developments in my ‘hood.
